Sunline has committed to a 9-month "Rising Dough" project which will engage 8-10 participants per session, comprising a diverse group of at-risk youth, survivors of human trafficking, and disadvantaged children. The program involves a significant but structured time commitment:
1- 8 hours weekly at Urban Light Centre for foundational baking
2- 40 hours weekly at Northern Skill Development Institute for intensive training
To ensure strong participant retention throughout this demanding schedule, we have implemented proven strategies:
1- Thorough selection process to identify committed candidates
2- Ongoing support through mentorship and regular check-ins
3- Small stipend to offset participation costs
4- Clear path to employment opportunities upon completion
Through the comprehensive screening process and diverse recruitment channels, it is ensured that participants are both suitable for the program and likely to benefit significantly from the training opportunity.
One of standout trainees is a 19-year-old who exemplifies the resilience seen in the program participants. Despite facing significant health challenges since age 13, including a kidney transplant that disrupted his traditional education path, he has shown remarkable determination. Now able to lead a relatively normal life while being mindful of physical limitations, he is pursuing studies in food and nutrition. His goal extends beyond personal development; he aims to use his knowledge to support both his own health management and inspire others facing similar challenges.
